Hyderabad: HYDRAA launched CCTV surveillance around lakes on Monday to strengthen monitoring and prevent encroachments, illegal dumping and land-filling activities.
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inaugurated the surveillance system. Officials connected the camera network to the central server at the HYDRAA office for continuous monitoring.
Authorities installed nearly 900 cameras around lakes to track illegal activities. Officials at the control room will monitor live feeds through dedicated screens.
CCTV surveillance around lakes strengthens monitoring system
HYDRAA said the surveillance system would help officials quickly identify soil dumping, construction debris disposal and illegal encroachments near lakes.
If officials detect suspicious vehicles dumping soil, they can immediately trace vehicle details and alert nearby Lake Protection Teams for action.
Lake Protection Teams were already monitoring lake areas to prevent encroachments. However, officials said the new surveillance network would significantly improve monitoring capabilities.
HYDRAA also integrated the camera feeds with monitors at the Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills. Commissioner A.V. Ranganath said the integration would further strengthen the surveillance mechanism.
HYDRAA Additional Director Varla Papaiah and Additional Commissioner R Sudarshan attended the inauguration programme.
