Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to accelerate the Hyderabad global knowledge hub initiative after reviewing recent TelanganaRising engagements in the UK and US.
The Chief Minister reviewed the outcome of the visits on Monday. The official delegation toured the US from August 19 to 29, while the TelanganaRising delegation also visited the UK.
The delegation included Revanth Reddy, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Santha Kumari, Vice-Chairperson of the Dr MCR HRD Institute, K. Ramakrishna Rao, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Ex-officio Special Chief Secretary, and N. Sridhar, Principal Secretary, CMO.
During the meeting, officials briefed Revanth Reddy on agreements, memorandums of agreement and letters of intent reached with leading global educational institutions.
The Chief Minister said Hyderabad already had a strong presence in software, pharmaceuticals, life sciences and manufacturing. He also pointed to the city’s emerging role in defence and aerospace.
Against this backdrop, Revanth Reddy directed officials to facilitate collaborations and offshore campuses of leading universities, colleges and schools from the US, Europe and Asia.
He also called for certification programmes, executive education and specialised courses to come to Hyderabad.
“I am happy and proud to share with my four crore people of Telangana that our vision to transform Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047, with an intermediary goal of $1 trillion by 2034, has received a big boost with the successful conclusion of agreements, memorandums of agreement and letters of intent with some of the best institutions of the world,” the Chief Minister said.
The initiative, he said, would expand access to global educational opportunities for youth and children in Telangana and across India. It would also help young people become world-class professionals who could contribute to the Telangana Rising vision.
Hyderabad global knowledge hub to expand through global education partnerships
Officials who visited the US briefed the Chief Minister on discussions with teams from Northeastern University and Virginia Tech University. They said the engagements had resulted in agreements and could lead to further collaborations.
Meanwhile, Santha Kumari said the Dr MCR HRD Institute would initially conduct short-term courses and executive education programmes. The institute is redesigning classrooms to support world-class programmes for government officials, PSU employees and private-sector professionals.
K. Ramakrishna Rao said the Hyderabad global knowledge hub would develop in phases. Initial facilities would come up at the Dr MCR HRD Institute campus. Later, Bharat Future City could accommodate additional facilities.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to include a dedicated track on global educational institutions and sports facilities at the Invest Telangana Global Summit. The summit is scheduled for December 7, 8 and 9.
Officials said Northeastern University, Boston, and the University of London would establish their first offshore campuses in India in Hyderabad.
In addition, the London School of Economics and the School of Oriental and African Studies had expressed interest in sending teams to Hyderabad. They would explore offshore schools, stronger industry interaction and improved pedagogical practices.
The institutions would also examine classroom interaction models and opportunities for their faculty to work in Hyderabad.
Harvard University had expressed an intent to offer short-term executive education programmes at the Dr MCR HRD Institute. These programmes would target senior government and corporate officials.
The TelanganaRising delegation also held discussions with representatives, senior leadership, faculty and administrators from Oxford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, London Business School, Cambridge University and Imperial College London.
Further discussions will focus on global education partnerships and offshore campus opportunities in Hyderabad.
