Karimnagar development projects to transform city into a model city: Bandi Sanjay
Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar announced new roads and drainage works across the outskirts of the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, as part of a wider Karimnagar development plan.
He said Central funds had enabled several major projects in the city. These included model roads, a skywalk, foot-over bridges, storm-water drains and improved traffic junctions.
According to Bandi Sanjay, more than ₹22,000 crore had gone into development works across the Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency during the past seven years. The spending also covered the Karimnagar Corporation.
The Union Minister laid the foundation stone for drainage pipeline and CC road works in Mankammathota. The works carry an estimated cost of ₹70 lakh under UIDF funds.
Karimnagar Mayor Kolagani Srinivas, Deputy Mayor Sunil Rao, Municipal Commissioner Prafull Desai, local corporators and BJP leaders attended the programme.
Bandi Sanjay later said he was working to accelerate Karimnagar development through additional Central funding. He said the Centre had provided ₹50 crore under UIDF and indicated that another ₹30 crore could follow.
He also said Karimnagar had secured inclusion in the UCF list after discussions with Central authorities. The move brought ₹840 crore in funds for development works, he said.
Karimnagar development plan includes roads, drains and public transport
Bandi Sanjay said the city would get more than 40 model roads covering 50 km. The projects would involve an estimated expenditure of ₹630 crore.
The plan also includes foot-over bridges at the District Court, Civil Hospital and Geetha Bhavan. In addition, officials had planned a skywalk at the Karimnagar bus station.
He said the proposed skywalk would follow the model of the facility at Uppal in Hyderabad. Traffic junctions across Karimnagar had also been identified for aesthetic improvement.
Furthermore, the city would receive 130 electric vehicles. Bandi Sanjay said the vehicles would support pollution-free transport within Karimnagar.
The Union Minister also addressed the problem of water stagnation during rains. He said officials had examined proposals aimed at improving rainwater drainage.
As part of the Karimnagar development plan, authorities would construct and improve storm-water drains across 80 km. The network would provide a permanent system for draining rainwater from roads and other areas.
Bandi Sanjay also addressed the city’s dumping yard problem. He said authorities had prepared an ₹80 crore solid waste management proposal.
The project would include an integrated solid waste management system with a transfer station and processing unit. The system would collect, segregate, recycle and scientifically dispose of municipal waste.
He said the administration would pursue Karimnagar development by bringing people together without political or party differences. He also sought public support for the proposed works.
The foundation stone ceremony marked the start of the ₹70 lakh drainage pipeline and CC road works in the 45th Division.
