Hyderabad: A Special ACB Court in Karimnagar sentenced former Tahsildar Alugunuri Roshaiah to two years of rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case. Roshaiah had served as Tahsildar of Kasipet mandal in Mancherial district. The Tahsildar bribery case related to a Rs 10,000 bribe that he accepted in 2013.
Special Judge Nama Santosh Kumar, who heard SPE and ACB cases, delivered the judgment on September 10. The court convicted Roshaiah under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The court found him guilty under Section 7 and Section 13(2), read with Section 13(1)(d), of the Act. Moreover, it imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for each of the two offences. If Roshaiah failed to pay the fines, he would undergo three months of simple imprisonment for each offence.
Tahsildar bribery case involved land mutation
According to the ACB case, Roshaiah demanded and accepted the Rs 10,000 bribe on January 9, 2013. He took the money from a complainant in return for extending an official favour. The favour involved mutation of agricultural land in the revenue records. In addition, the complainant sought the issuance of a Pattadar Passbook for the land.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau subsequently prosecuted the case against the former Tahsildar. The prosecution culminated in his conviction and sentencing by the Special ACB Court in Karimnagar. The court awarded two years of rigorous imprisonment in the Tahsildar bribery case. It also imposed the separate fines for the two offences for which Roshaiah was convicted.
