Hyderabad: A Fast Track Court awarded a 10-year jail term in a POCSO attempted rape case involving a 2017 incident in Cyberabad.
The court convicted Korra Shivashankar, a 41-year-old labourer, under provisions of the IPC and POCSO Act. It sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine.
POCSO attempted rape case verdict details
The court sentenced the accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a ₹10,000 fine for attempted rape. It also imposed six months of simple imprisonment with a ₹1,000 fine for wrongful confinement.
In addition, the court awarded ₹3 lakh compensation to the victim.
The incident occurred on June 5, 2017, in Yousufguda. The minor victim was alone at home when the accused entered the house.
According to police, he posed as a doctor to gain entry and then attempted sexual assault. However, he fled after the victim raised an alarm.
Police arrested the accused on June 14, 2017, and filed a chargesheet after investigation. Subsequently, the Fast Track Court in Kukatpally delivered the conviction.
