Hyderabad: Lacrosse winners honored after BC Gurukul students P. Gopika and Sangita helped India win bronze in Malaysia. The students played a key role in the Indian women’s team at the South East Coast Lacrosse Championship–2026 in Kuala Lumpur.
Officials felicitated Gopika and Sangita with shawls during the recognition programme. Meanwhile, each student received a cash prize of Rs.25,000 for representing India at the international level.
The students also received financial assistance of Rs.1,76,000 each towards their travel expenses. Their achievement was recognised as a matter of pride for Telangana, the country and BC Gurukuls.
The Indian women’s team secured the bronze medal while competing against leading athletes from across the world. Officials congratulated Gopika and Sangita and wished them greater success in future competitions.
The government also reiterated its support for students who excel in sports. It clarified that it would bear the expenses of students participating in national and international-level competitions.
Lacrosse winners honored for years of sporting progress
Gopika and Sangita joined BC Gurukul schools in the fifth grade, where coaches identified their lacrosse talent. Subsequently, the students received special training to develop their skills and compete at higher levels.
Earlier, the pair won gold medals at South Zone Championships held in Kurnool and Chennai. They also delivered strong performances at competitions conducted in Agra and Jammu & Kashmir.
Their selection for the Indian team marked another step in their sporting journey. At the international championship in Malaysia, both students contributed to India’s bronze-medal achievement.
Lacrosse coaches Paramesh and Akash were also congratulated for training the students. Principal Srilatha received recognition for supporting their sporting development.
The programme conveyed wishes for Gopika and Sangita to secure more victories at national and international competitions. Their performance in Malaysia was highlighted as evidence of the talent developed through BC Gurukul sports training.
