Hyderabad: A loose edible oil ban was enforced as H-FAST Hyderabad held a meeting with oil manufacturers and suppliers, warning of strict action against violations of food safety norms.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath conducted the awareness meeting at the H-FAST building in Begumbazar. He directed stakeholders to follow legal standards in the manufacture and sale of edible oils. In particular, he instructed them not to sell loose or unbranded oil under any circumstances.
He said the sale of loose edible oil posed serious health risks and violated food safety regulations. Therefore, he asked all traders to ensure that only properly packaged and sealed products reached consumers.
Loose edible oil ban enforced with a compliance deadline
Officials outlined key requirements during the meeting. They stressed that all edible oil products must carry proper branding and labelling as per FSSAI guidelines. Manufacturers must include details such as manufacturing date, expiry date, batch number, license number and oil type on packaging.
They also called for strict hygiene during processing, storage and transport. At the same time, they warned against adulteration or mixing of inferior or harmful substances. Authorities said violations would attract action under the Food Safety and Standards Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Further, officials advised traders to maintain transparency and prioritise public health. They gave all stakeholders 15 days to comply with the rules. If violations continued, authorities would initiate strict legal action.
The initiative formed part of efforts to curb food adulteration at the source and ensure safe products for the public. Participants at the meeting assured cooperation and agreed to follow the guidelines.
