Hyderabad: An H-FAST raid in Charminar uncovered an illegally operated fast-food warehouse. Officials seized adulterated food items, reused cooking oil and artificial food colours during the operation.

The Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST), along with a Food Safety Officer, conducted the raid at M/s Al Akbar Fast Food and Godown in Panch Mohalla, New Lad Bazaar, under the Hussaini Alam police station limits.

Acting on credible information, the team inspected the premises. Officials found food preparation and storage activities in conditions that posed a serious risk to public health.

Meanwhile, inspectors found that the operators repeatedly used deteriorated cooking oil. They also failed to maintain water quality certification and other quality control measures.

The team reported severe unhygienic conditions at the premises. Officials also found no pest control measures in place.

During the operation, officials seized around 110 kilograms of prepared fried chicken. They also seized six tins of cooking oil containing 15 litres each and artificial chemical food colours.

Authorities took two persons allegedly responsible for running the illegal operation into custody.

Officials warned that adulterated food can cause food poisoning, vomiting and diarrhoea. It can also lead to gastrointestinal infections.

Authorities said repeated consumption of food prepared in reused oil may lead to long-term health complications.

Authorities said artificial food colours can trigger allergic reactions and other health problems. They added that prolonged exposure may affect the liver and increase the risk of serious illnesses.

Police registered a case at Hussaini Alam Police Station under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and other relevant laws. Officials handed over the accused and seized material to the Station House Officer for further legal action.

Hyderabad City Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against food adulteration. They urged citizens to purchase food only from licensed establishments.

Authorities also advised consumers to verify FSSAI licences and report suspicious food practices through the toll-free helpline number 8712661212.
