Governor calls for English proficiency without neglecting mother tongue

Hyderabad: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla urged teachers to strengthen students’ English skills while preserving their mother tongues and cultural heritage.

He made the remarks while interacting with participants of the English Proficiency Programme for teachers working in Tribal Welfare Educational Institutions. He also distributed certificates to participants who completed the two-week training at Lok Bhavan on Friday.

The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, organised the programme to improve English language teaching skills among educators serving in Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions.

English Proficiency Programme strengthens teaching skills

The Governor praised EFLU and the Tribal Welfare Department for conducting the training programme. He said stronger English language skills would help teachers improve classroom communication. As a result, students could gain greater confidence and better access to higher education and employment opportunities.

The English Proficiency Programme involved 50 teachers and five EFLU faculty members. Moreover, Lok Bhavan supported the initiative with Rs.12.80 lakh from the Governor’s Discretionary Fund. Shukla noted that teachers play a vital role in shaping the future of students. Therefore, he said capacity-building programmes can help bridge educational gaps in tribal regions.

English Proficiency Programme supports tribal education

The Governor reiterated Raj Bhavan’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote tribal welfare and educational advancement.

Furthermore, he stressed that students must acquire skills needed for a globalised world. At the same time, they should preserve their native languages and tribal cultural traditions. Congratulating the participants, he urged them to apply the knowledge gained through the English Proficiency Programme for the benefit of their students.

Special Chief Secretary to the Governor M. Dana Kishore, EFLU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nagaraju, Joint Secretary K. Shashikirana Chary and Associate Professor Dr. Raja Ram attended the programme.
