Hyderabad: A case of alleged dowry harassment in Mahabubabad town turned fatal after a man died following an assault by his son-in-law and relatives, police said on Friday.
According to the complaint, Banoth Lalu Naik of Balaji Hills in Mahabubabad had married his daughter Sri Sailahari to Guguloth Gandhi Babu of Gundrathimadugu Pedda Thanda in Kuravi mandal. Soon after the marriage, Gandhi Babu, his parents and sisters allegedly subjected Sailahari to mental and physical harassment over additional dowry demands.
Dowry harassment Mahabubabad case escalates into violence
On Thursday night around 11.30 pm, Sailahari reportedly called her father in distress. She told him that her husband and in-laws were assaulting her and that her life was in danger. Alarmed by the call, Lalu Naik rushed to the accused’s house in Military Colony along with his son Pradeep.
Pradeep stated in his police complaint that Gandhi Babu, along with his parents Seetharam and Kavitha, attacked both him and his father upon their arrival. He alleged that the accused beat them with fists and kicks. Lalu Naik suffered serious injuries to his chest and other parts of the body and collapsed at the spot. He later died from the injuries. Pradeep also sustained injuries in the attack.
Based on Pradeep’s complaint, Mahabubabad Town Police registered a murder case against the three accused and began an investigation. Town Inspector Gatla Mahender Reddy said special teams were formed to trace and arrest the suspects. Further details were expected to emerge during the investigation.
