BRS criticism of Congress government intensifies over farmers’ distress in Telangana

Hyderabad: BRS state general secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar accused the Congress government of worsening farmers’ distress in Telangana through inadequate agricultural support. He alleged that crop damage, electricity interruptions and fertiliser shortages had increased farmers’ difficulties since Congress assumed power.

Addressing a press conference at G.M. Patel Mini Garden in Kondurg mandal of Rangareddy district on Monday, October 12, he criticised the government’s agricultural policies. The BRS criticism of Congress included allegations concerning irrigation water, crop compensation and the government’s response to farmers’ grievances.

Former MLA Anjaiah Yadav also attended the press conference and questioned the government’s handling of agricultural problems. Praveen Kumar described the Congress government as “El Congo”, claiming its policies had caused farmers greater hardship than the El Nino weather phenomenon.

He alleged that deficient rainfall and frequent power outages had further aggravated agricultural problems across Telangana. Moreover, he accused the government of failing to provide adequate assistance to farmers facing crop losses.

Praveen Kumar also alleged that Telangana’s river waters were being diverted to Andhra Pradesh. He accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of failing to safeguard the state’s interests. The BRS leader urged government officials to inspect damaged crops and arrange compensation for affected farmers.

Police action and Rythu Bandhu implementation questioned

Praveen Kumar also criticised the police over their handling of complaints against the Shadnagar MLA. He contrasted the police response in that matter with the arrest of BRS spokesperson Manne Krishank.

Meanwhile, former MLA Anjaiah Yadav alleged that farmers had faced persistent fertiliser shortages, electricity cuts and crop losses under Congress rule. He questioned the implementation of the Rythu Bandhu scheme and sought immediate intervention from Agriculture Department officials.

Yadav urged officials to visit affected agricultural fields, assess crop damage and prepare detailed crop-loss reports. He also demanded adequate compensation for farmers who had suffered agricultural losses. The former legislator accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil its electoral promises and demanded immediate measures to address agricultural distress.

Alongside the agricultural issues, Praveen Kumar called on BRS workers to strengthen the party’s organisational activities. He urged party cadres to intensify membership enrolment drives and support preparations for the upcoming Graduate MLC elections.

The BRS criticism of Congress also centred on the government’s response to crop losses and the difficulties farmers allegedly faced. Both leaders demanded field inspections, crop-loss assessments and compensation measures to address the problems they raised.
