BC leaders demand stronger push for social justice from Centre

Hyderabad: Former minister Boda Janardhan and BC Dal leader Dundra Kumaraswamy had led a delegation of backward class organisations to press for BC leaders social justice demands before the Centre.

They, along with representatives of 20 BC organisations, met Kalvakuntla Kavitha in Hyderabad. The meeting focused on reservations, caste enumeration and women’s representation.

The leaders urged stronger pressure on the Union government to address long-pending BC issues. Therefore, they highlighted gaps in current policy measures.

BC leaders social justice concerns over caste enumeration

The delegation flagged the absence of an OBC column in the ongoing enumeration. As a result, they warned that lack of credible caste data would weaken policy planning.

They pointed out that separate categories existed for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. However, OBCs were excluded from the current digital exercise.

Consequently, they termed the omission a serious lapse in ensuring equitable representation. They said accurate data remained essential for effective welfare planning.

BC leaders social justice demand for reservations and reforms

The leaders supported 33 percent reservation for women. However, they insisted on a sub-quota for OBC women within the framework.

They demanded population-based reservations and called for a dedicated BC Reservation Bill. In addition, they sought the creation of a separate ministry for BC welfare.

The delegation also proposed a “BC Protection Act” to safeguard rights. They said such measures were necessary to ensure social justice and balanced development.

The BC leaders social justice demands reflected growing concern over representation gaps and policy shortcomings at the national level.
