Hyderabad: Amgen will establish a major research and innovation centre at Genome Valley, expanding the global biotechnology company’s operations in Telangana.
The company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Telangana government at the Secretariat on Tuesday. IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu was present during the signing.
Earlier, Amgen India representatives met Sridhar Babu and discussed plans to expand the company’s operations from Hyderabad.
Amgen India Managing Director Naveen Gullapalli and Telangana Industries Special Secretary Krishna Aditya exchanged the MoU documents after the meeting.
Sridhar Babu said the proposed Amgen research centre would create employment opportunities for local talent. He urged the company to give preference to skilled youth from Telangana while recruiting for the new facility.
The Minister recalled that Amgen had recently established a large Global Capability Centre with 3,000 employees.
He said the growing confidence of leading pharmaceutical companies in Telangana was a matter of pride for the State government. He also welcomed the State’s emergence as an important base for life sciences companies.
Sridhar Babu attributed Telangana’s growing appeal to its skilled workforce, global-standard infrastructure and established life sciences ecosystem. He said Genome Valley had strengthened the State’s position as a key destination for global life sciences companies.
Amgen research centre to strengthen Genome Valley ecosystem
The proposed Amgen research centre will add to the research and innovation capabilities of Genome Valley. The facility is also expected to provide opportunities for local skilled professionals.
Amgen operates across nearly 100 countries and develops innovative treatments for serious health conditions. Its areas of work include cancer, cardiovascular diseases, bone health, inflammation, respiratory diseases and rare diseases.
Sridhar Babu said the State government would continue supporting the growth of the life sciences sector. He also stressed the importance of creating more opportunities for local talent as global companies expand their presence in Telangana.
The MoU marks another expansion of Amgen’s activities in Hyderabad. The company’s new research and innovation centre will form part of its operations in the State.
Industries Special Secretary Krishna Aditya, Industries Commissioner Nikhil Chakravarthy, Telangana Life Sciences CEO Sarvesh Singh, Amgen India Managing Director Naveen Gullapalli, Executive Director Srinu Kosaraju, Anumitha and others attended the MoU programme.
