Hyderabad: The All India Lawyers Union (AILU) Telangana State Committee organised a protest at Indira Park demanding advocate health cards for all registered lawyers and highlighting welfare and social security issues affecting the legal fraternity.
More than 250 advocates, law students and representatives of bar associations from across Telangana attended the programme.
Speakers stressed the need to extend health insurance coverage to all registered advocates, especially those enrolled after 2019.
They urged the Telangana Government, the Advocates Welfare Trust and the Bar Council to take immediate measures for the welfare of advocates and their families.
Advocate health cards among key demands raised by AILU
Meanwhile, participants demanded health cards for all registered advocates.
They also sought regular updates to advocate records. This includes removing deceased members and adding newly enrolled lawyers.
Further, they demanded an increase in medical insurance coverage from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
They also sought insurance coverage for family members.
Additionally, the speakers called for inclusion of all illnesses under health insurance schemes.
They demanded expansion of the network of empanelled hospitals as well.
The participants also sought an allocation of Rs 500 crore for the Advocates Welfare Trust.
Further, they demanded annual funding of Rs 10 crore for the Bar Council’s welfare activities.
Bar Council members M. Srinivas Rao, Ch. Sailaja, K. Sujatha Pasham, Ashok Goud Ponnam, V. Raghunath, Kiran Kumar G., Anil Kumar and Mahesh Goud Akula attended the protest.
Former Telangana High Court Advocates Association secretary Khwaja Wazarat Ali and advocate Barkat Ali Khan also addressed the gathering.
They extended support to the demands raised by AILU.
AILU Telangana president Koli Satyanarayana and general secretary K. Pradha Saradhi led the protest.
Representatives from various district bar associations also participated and expressed solidarity with the agitation.
The organisers said they would continue their campaign until authorities addressed the demands of the legal community.
