Hyderabad: Accident insurance has provided ₹50 lakh in financial assistance to the family of a TGSRTC driver who suffered permanent disability in a road accident.
On Monday, TGSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy handed over the cheque to the family at Bus Bhavan in Hyderabad.
The insurance benefit came through Union Bank of India’s Super Salary Savings Account facility. Under the facility, eligible employees receive free accident insurance coverage.
Driver E. Madar, staff number E323013, worked at the Korutla depot in Karimnagar district. On October 9, 2025, he met with a serious accident while on duty.
At around 4.15 am, Madar was travelling from Korutla to Hyderabad in bus TS02Z 0040. Near Kukanurpalli, the bus collided with a lorry parked on a bridge.
As a result of the crash, Madar completely lost one of his legs. He subsequently suffered permanent disability and became confined to bed.
Consequently, the family faced severe financial and emotional difficulties. Madar had been the primary support for the household.
Nagi Reddy handed over the ₹50 lakh cheque along with Union Bank of India CGM M. Ravindra Babu and Deputy General Manager N. Satyanarayana Babji.
Accident insurance strengthens support for TGSRTC employees
Nagi Reddy said it was deeply distressing when employees lost their lives or suffered permanent disabilities in road accidents despite having no fault in such incidents.
At the same time, he said TGSRTC continued to give employee welfare the highest priority. The organisation would always stand by families facing difficult circumstances, he added.
According to Nagi Reddy, insurance schemes provide financial security and confidence to families during emergencies. So far, 27 TGSRTC employees’ families had received financial benefits through the accident insurance scheme.
He also thanked Union Bank of India for its support to TGSRTC employees. The bank’s insurance facility had provided crucial assistance to Madar’s family during a difficult period.
Under TGSRTC guidelines, employees opened accounts at Union Bank branches and received RuPay cards. Therefore, Madar’s family qualified for the free accident insurance benefit linked to the account.
Meanwhile, the Super Salary Savings Account continued to provide an important financial safeguard for eligible employees and their families.
TGSRTC Executive Directors C.H. Venkanna, M. Rajasekhar and Salomon attended the programme. Finance Advisor Vijay Pushpa and CPM Usha Devi also participated.
Senior officials from Union Bank of India were present at the event.
