Hyderabad: Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau officials caught a bill collector from the Sadashivpet municipality in Sangareddy district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a complainant.
The accused, M. Nikhil Reddy, worked as an outsourcing bill collector in the office of the Municipal Commissioner at Sadashivpet Town. According to ACB officials, he demanded money for processing a reduction of property tax related to the complainant’s house.
Officials said the accused agreed to reduce the property tax amount from Rs 1,04,480 to Rs 49,892 in return for illegal payment. ACB teams caught him red-handed at the complainant’s residence while accepting the bribe amount.
Investigators recovered the tainted cash of Rs 15,000 during the operation. Meanwhile, officials said the accused had initially demanded Rs 35,000 from the complainant.
Sadashivpet bribe case exposes illegal demand
According to the ACB, the accused had already collected Rs 20,000 from the complainant before the latest payment.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau urged citizens to report bribery demands made by public servants through its toll-free number 1064. Officials also said people could approach the bureau through WhatsApp, Facebook, and the official website.
The agency assured complainants that authorities would keep the identity of victims and informants confidential during investigations.
