Woman abandons toddler at Nalgonda bus stand, traced after CCTV review

Hyderabad: A 15-month-old boy was found abandoned at the Nalgonda RTC bus stand after his mother left him behind and fled with another man on a motorcycle. The woman, identified as Naveena from Hyderabad, was later traced through CCTV footage and brought in for questioning along with her companion.

Police said Naveena became acquainted with a youth from Nalgonda’s Old City area through Instagram. Though married and mother to a child named Dhanush, she allegedly planned to leave her husband and son to pursue a relationship with the man she met online.

On the day of the incident, Naveena arrived at the Nalgonda bus stand with her son. She then left the child behind and rode away on a motorcycle with the youth. Passengers and depot staff noticed the boy crying and searching for his mother, prompting them to alert Nalgonda Two Town Police.

Sub-Inspector Saidulu and his team arrived at the scene and reviewed CCTV footage from the premises. In one clip, a woman riding pillion on a motorcycle was spotted, and the boy identified her as his mother when shown the footage.

Using the vehicle’s license plate, police tracked the bike owner, who said it had been taken by a friend. Further inquiry revealed the woman had connected with her companion through Instagram and was attempting to abandon her family.

Police brought the woman, her Instagram acquaintance, and her husband to the station and conducted counselling. The child was safely handed over to his father. The swift response by SI Saidulu and the police team earned praise from local residents.
