Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao demanded a White Paper on government contracts awarded since the Congress assumed power and accused the state government of failing to honour promises made to SC, ST, BC and minority contractors.
Addressing a dharna organised by the SC, ST, BC and Minority Contractors Association at Indira Park on Saturday, KTR questioned whether the benefits of government spending and borrowing had reached marginalised communities.
He recalled assurances made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy regarding the allocation of government contracts. According to KTR, the Chief Minister promised 18 per cent of contracts to SCs and 12 per cent to STs during the SC and ST Declaration in Chevella.
KTR also said Revanth Reddy later announced in Kamareddy that BC communities would receive a 42 per cent share in government contracts.
Government contracts become focus of KTR criticism
The BRS leader alleged that authorities were awarding major government contracts to a select group of beneficiaries instead of ensuring wider participation by contractors from marginalised communities.
KTR claimed that contractors from SC, ST, BC and minority communities had not received adequate opportunities in major infrastructure and education projects.
He further alleged that BJP MPs Konda Visweshwar Reddy and C.M. Ramesh secured significant contracts under projects initiated by the government. According to KTR, Konda Visweshwar Reddy obtained a major share of tenders related to the Young India Schools project, while C.M. Ramesh received road construction contracts worth ₹1,300 crore.
The BRS leader also criticised the government’s handling of farmers’ issues. He alleged that dissatisfaction was growing among farmers over crop procurement operations.
KTR warned that the party would intensify its agitation if the concerns of marginalised communities remained unresolved.
Expressing confidence about the future, KTR said the BRS would work towards creating 50,000 young contractors from weaker sections if it returned to power in 2028. He said former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao would lead efforts to achieve that objective.
