Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Thursday assured the Legislative Council that the Uppal Narapally elevated corridor would open by next June.
The Minister said the government would complete the long-delayed project within the revised deadline under all circumstances. He gave the assurance while responding to questions from Leader of the Opposition Sirikonda Madhusudhana Chary and Council members Teenmar Mallanna and Pingili Sripal Reddy.
Komatireddy acknowledged that the project, which began in 2017-18, had faced severe operational hurdles and prolonged delays. However, he said the Congress government had taken steps to resolve the bottlenecks and accelerate construction.
Uppal Narapally elevated corridor faced contractor hurdles
Explaining the delays, Komatireddy said the project’s primary contractor had approached the National Company Law Tribunal. Authorities subsequently brought in a secondary agency midway through the project. However, that agency also failed to execute the work as required, he said.
The State government later coordinated with Gayatri Projects to resume and accelerate construction. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy intervened in the matter to facilitate the resumption and fast-tracking of the work, Komatireddy said.
“This is not an ordinary flyover; it is a massive elevated corridor serving as a vital lifeline,” the Minister said. He highlighted the project’s importance for road connectivity between Hyderabad and several key destinations.
The corridor would serve traffic travelling towards Warangal, AIIMS Bibinagar, Bhongir and Jangaon, he said. Komatireddy said bituminous road renewals and surface repairs beneath the elevated corridor had already been completed.
Meanwhile, construction work on the main project was continuing round the clock to meet the revised deadline. The Minister said officials had conducted a high-level review three days earlier.
The Chief Engineer and officials from the National Highways Regional Office participated in the review. They discussed measures to streamline project logistics and ensure timely payments to the contractor, he said.
According to Komatireddy, these measures were intended to prevent further operational obstacles from slowing construction.
Uppal Narapally elevated corridor gets revised June deadline
The project had earlier been targeted for completion by Dasara. However, previous delays forced authorities to revise that schedule. Komatireddy reiterated in the Legislative Council that the government had now fixed next June as the firm completion target.
He assured members that the Uppal Narapally elevated corridor would be completed and opened to the public within that deadline. The Minister said the government had focused on removing contractor-related and operational hurdles that had affected the project since its launch.
He maintained that the ongoing round-the-clock construction, coordination with project agencies and regular reviews would support the revised schedule.
