Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to strengthen the TGMSIDC medicine supply system through new Central Medicine Stores (CMS) centres, transparent procurement processes and improved support for patients requiring specialised treatment.
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha issued the directions during a high-level review meeting on the functioning of CMS centres operated by the Telangana Government Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC).
The minister instructed officials to prepare proposals for constructing 15 permanent buildings for CMS centres. He said stronger infrastructure would improve storage, distribution and monitoring of medicines across the state. The review focused on medicine procurement, surgical supplies, reagents, equipment purchases and healthcare infrastructure projects.
TGMSIDC medicine supply system to adopt transparent procurement
Damodar Rajanarasimha directed officials to strengthen transparency in the procurement of medicines, surgical items, reagents and medical equipment.
To improve oversight, he ordered the expansion of the tender evaluation mechanism from two committees to five committees. The additional committees will help ensure greater scrutiny and accountability during the procurement process.
The minister also instructed TGMSIDC Managing Director Gaurav Uppal to transfer officials who have been serving in the corporation for long periods.
Furthermore, he directed authorities to appoint nodal officers immediately to monitor medicines, equipment procurement and civil works in hospitals under the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) and Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP).
Officials were asked to conduct mandatory monthly reviews of all purchases made through the corporation.
TGMSIDC medicine supply system to expand CMS centres
The minister ordered officials to prepare a Standard Equipment List for all levels of healthcare institutions, including Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, Area Hospitals and District Hospitals. He said a standardised list would ensure uniformity in equipment availability across government healthcare facilities.
In addition, the government decided to expand the CMS network. The minister directed officials to establish four new CMS centres in the CURE region in addition to the existing two centres. The move aims to improve medicine distribution and strengthen the overall TGMSIDC medicine supply system across Telangana.
Government extends support to haemophilia patients
During the review, Damodar Rajanarasimha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting haemophilia patients. He directed officials to provide monthly medicines free of cost and ensure their availability through Government General Hospitals.
Officials informed the minister that Emicizumab, used for treating Haemophilia-A patients, is currently available at Osmania Hospital, Gandhi Hospital and Niloufer Hospital
The minister instructed officials to make the medicine available at Government General Hospitals in Khammam and Warangal as well.
TGMSIDC Managing Director Gaurav Uppal, Executive Director-in-Charge Venkateswarlu and other senior corporation officials attended the meeting.
