Telangana Media Academy extends support to journalists’ families

Hyderabad: Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy distributed financial assistance under the journalists welfare fund scheme to 21 beneficiaries and reiterated the State government’s commitment to journalist welfare.

The cheque distribution programme took place at the Telangana Media Academy auditorium in Nampally on Wednesday. Under the journalists welfare fund scheme, the Academy provided financial assistance to 17 families of deceased journalists and four journalists suffering from serious illnesses.

Addressing the gathering, Srinivas Reddy said the State government, under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is giving priority to journalist welfare and working to address issues faced by media professionals and their families.

Journalists welfare fund provides financial security

Srinivas Reddy said the journalists welfare fund scheme offers a one-time financial assistance of Rs.1 lakh to the families of deceased journalists. In addition, the scheme provides a monthly pension of Rs.3,000 for five years to eligible family members.

Furthermore, the government extends educational support to children of deceased journalists. Under the scheme, up to two children from a family receive Rs.1,000 per month towards tuition expenses. The Chairman said the present government has so far extended similar financial assistance to 159 beneficiaries.

During the programme, participants paid tributes to journalists who had passed away and expressed solidarity with their families. They observed a moment of remembrance and prayed for peace for the departed souls. Media Academy Secretary Nagulapalli Venkateswara Rao, Manager Shaileshwar Reddy, journalists, beneficiaries and other guests attended the event.
