Hyderabad: Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy said the journalists welfare fund committee sanctioned financial assistance to 21 journalists and their families in the state.
The fifth meeting of the journalists welfare fund committee was held on Thursday at the Telangana Media Academy office conference hall in Nampally under the chairmanship of K. Srinivas Reddy.
Committee members examined 29 applications submitted for financial assistance under the journalists welfare fund scheme.
The committee approved financial aid for families of 17 deceased journalists. It also sanctioned assistance for four working journalists who suffered serious accidents or prolonged illnesses.
Journalists welfare fund to provide pension support
K. Srinivas Reddy said each family of the deceased journalists would receive financial assistance of ₹1 lakh.
He stated that the journalists welfare committee would also provide a monthly pension of ₹3,000 to each family for five years.
The chairman said the scheme also covered educational support for children of deceased journalists.
According to him, two children studying from LKG to Class 10 in affected journalist families would receive monthly tuition fee assistance of ₹1,000 each.
The committee also sanctioned financial support to four working journalists suffering from serious health conditions.
Information Department Joint Director D.S. Jagan attended the meeting along with Media Academy Secretary Nagulapalli Venkateswara Rao.
Accounts Officer Poornachander Rao and Manager D.R.S. Shaileshwar Reddy also participated in the committee meeting.
