Telangana sets welfare benchmark with food, farm, and BC quota push: Shabbir Ali

Hyderabad: Telangana Government Advisor and Congress leader Mohammad Ali Shabbir on Monday said the state had set a national welfare benchmark with sweeping moves in food security, farmer support, and backward class reservations.

Speaking at a public meeting in Kamareddy, Shabbir highlighted the distribution of 3,174 ration cards in a single day. He said the state is delivering on food justice by issuing new cards through gram sabhas and supplying free fine rice to nearly 80% of the population.

Massive Food Drive and Rice Distribution

He credited Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for turning Congress guarantees into action. “Telangana is the only state offering 6 kg of ‘sanna biyyam’ per person per month to 93 lakh families,” Shabbir said. “This is not just food it’s empowerment.”

Shabbir linked the initiative to the Congress-led UPA’s National Food Security Act and accused the previous BRS government of ignoring ration card backlogs.

Record Paddy Yield, ₹500 Bonus

He also pointed to record paddy output 281 lakh metric tonnes calling it the highest in the country. Telangana is the only state, he said, to offer a ₹500 per quintal bonus for fine variety paddy.

42% BC Quota Law Awaits Presidential Assent

He said Telangana had completed a caste survey and passed a law to increase BC reservations from 27% to 42%. The proposal is now pending with the President, and local body polls will reflect the revised quotas.

“Participation must match population,” he said, invoking Rahul Gandhi’s slogan.

Shabbir declared Telangana a national model for equity-driven governance. “We’re not just announcing—we’re delivering,” he said.
