International medical tourism panel formed in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has constituted a high-level committee to promote international medical tourism in government hospitals as part of its efforts to position Hyderabad as a global healthcare destination.

The committee will study the measures required to offer medical services to foreign patients in government healthcare institutions. It will then submit recommendations to the government.

The government appointed TGMSIDC Managing Director Gaurav Uppal, Telangana Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director P. Gauthami and former NIMS Director Dr Beerappa as members of the panel.

International medical tourism plan focuses on foreign patients

The committee will examine various aspects related to providing healthcare services for overseas patients in government hospitals.

It will study the feasibility of establishing a dedicated medical tourism block at TIMS Sanathnagar.

In addition, the panel will recommend treatment packages and pricing models for foreign patients.

It will also suggest measures related to language interpretation services, patient support systems and food facilities.

Further, the committee will coordinate with the Telangana Medical and Wellness Tourism Promotion Board and recommend strategies for marketing and promotion.

Accordingly, the government directed the panel to submit its report within one month.

Meanwhile, the state government is planning to organise a global healthcare event to showcase Hyderabad’s medical capabilities.

During the programme, international delegates will visit major government hospitals, including NIMS, TIMS, Osmania and Gandhi hospitals.

These institutions offer advanced healthcare services in organ transplantation, cardiac care, trauma care, neurosciences and gastro sciences.

Besides, officials believe the initiative will strengthen Hyderabad’s position as a preferred destination for global healthcare and medical tourism.
