Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Dr. Jitender chaired a staff officers’ meeting to review key police reforms, including manpower rationalisation, security deployment, technology upgrades and policy changes across the department.
The DGP said the meeting focused on the State Review Committee (SRC) report and the withdrawal of unnecessary security provided in the name of Maoism. The move could free nearly 400 personnel and several bulletproof vehicles for priority policing duties.
Senior officers also discussed a comprehensive manpower and vehicle audit. They reviewed the methodology for implementing its recommendations. The meeting also examined plans to operate the Greyhounds and OCTOPUS units from a single campus, considering the current security environment.
Telangana police reforms include technology and enforcement overhaul
The officers reviewed the final draft of the Telangana Police Manual and its compendiums. They also discussed IPS uniform issues, including the continued use of cross belts and batons and their relevance in modern policing.
Dr. Jitender also reviewed the welfare concerns of Telangana State Special Police (TGSP) personnel. He stressed the need for support from other government departments to address these issues.
The meeting also covered plans to create new enforcement wings for vigilance, food adulteration and drug control. Officers discussed the proposed Traffic and Road Safety Bureau and plans to revamp the Technology and Computer Services Wing to better manage emerging technologies.
The DGP also reviewed progress on CCTNS 3.0, TGCOP 3.0 and Hawk Eye 3.0. He said the department would consider the suggestions and opinions shared during the meeting before finalising its future policies.
