BJP seeks action over SIR irregularities in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urged the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to intervene in alleged SIR irregularities during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The party sought immediate corrective measures to ensure the verification process remains transparent, impartial and in line with Election Commission guidelines.

A BJP delegation led by Telangana president N Ramchander Rao, along with Election Commission Affairs Committee chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy and other senior leaders, submitted a representation to the CEO on Tuesday. The delegation outlined several alleged lapses in the conduct of the revision exercise across the State.

The party alleged that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in parts of Hyderabad’s Old City distributed Enumeration Forms through camps organised by AIMIM leaders instead of carrying out mandatory door-to-door verification. It also claimed that AIMIM leaders were given access to the Election Commission app to upload completed Enumeration Forms.

Furthermore, the BJP alleged that many voters in GHMC, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, Warangal and Karimnagar municipal corporation areas had not received Enumeration Forms because household verification was incomplete.

BJP seeks probe into SIR irregularities

The party urged the CEO to direct BLOs to visit every household and revisit homes where voters were unavailable. It also asked supervisors to ensure officials both distribute and collect Enumeration Forms from all eligible voters.

Meanwhile, the BJP sought English versions of the Enumeration Forms across Telangana. It said migrants from other states were facing difficulties because the forms were available only in Telugu.

The representation also alleged that some Electoral Registration Officers refused to accept statutory forms for voter enrolment and transfers. In addition, it claimed that technical issues had delayed the uploading of completed Enumeration Forms in some places.

Finally, the BJP requested the CEO to investigate the alleged SIR irregularities, issue necessary directions to election officials and ensure the revision exercise is conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.
