SIR is constitutional exercise, not BJP programme: N. Ramchander Rao

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao said the Election Commission of India is conducting the SIR Constitutional Exercise. He said the exercise is not a Bharatiya Janata Party programme.

Addressing a BJP workers’ workshop in Nagole on Friday, Ramchander Rao alleged that Congress, BRS and AIMIM were spreading misinformation about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. He said the SIR Constitutional Exercise aims to identify and remove duplicate, fake and deceased voters. At the same time, it seeks to protect the voting rights of genuine citizens.

SIR Constitutional Exercise aims to clean voter rolls

Ramchander Rao claimed that some political parties were creating fear among voters. He alleged that they were falsely claiming that members of certain communities would lose their voting rights. He rejected those allegations and said no genuine voter from any community would face deletion from the electoral rolls.

According to him, the revision process targets duplicate entries, fake voters and deceased persons. He also alleged that illegal Rohingya immigrants appeared on some voter lists. Therefore, he said authorities should remove such entries during verification.

Furthermore, he said the Election Commission was conducting the exercise under constitutional provisions and electoral regulations.

SIR Constitutional Exercise requires public participation

Ramchander Rao urged BJP booth-level representatives to participate actively in the voter verification drive. He asked them to assist eligible voters throughout the process. In addition, he called on party workers to create awareness about the revision exercise. He also urged them to counter what he described as misleading information.

Moreover, he stressed that only eligible Indian citizens have the right to vote. He argued that foreign nationals and illegal immigrants should not appear on electoral rolls. The BJP leader said booth-level teams should help protect genuine voters. Meanwhile, authorities should complete the SIR Constitutional Exercise across Telangana.
