RTA seizes Kaveri Travels bus in Kukatpally after Kurnool fire accident

Hyderabad: After the deadly Kurnool bus fire, the Road Transport Authority (RTA) began surprise checks on private travel operators. On Saturday morning, officials inspected Kaveri Travels buses in Kukatpally to ensure compliance with transport and safety regulations. The operation aimed to prevent further violations and protect passenger safety.

RTA seizes Kaveri Travels bus for rule violations

Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Srinubabu said officers inspected two Kaveri Travels buses during the operation. They found that both vehicles had violated safety rules. Consequently, the team seized one bus and booked two separate cases against the company.

In addition, officials identified the seized bus as NL 02 B 3038. They instructed the operator not to use the second vehicle for passenger transport until it met all fitness standards. Furthermore, the RTA warned that continued negligence could invite stricter legal action.

Srinubabu noted that the enforcement drive intends to improve accountability among private operators. He added that adherence to road safety norms was crucial to avoid tragedies like Kurnool.

Inspections follow Kurnool bus fire accident

The latest checks came soon after a horrific fire near Kurnool, where a Kaveri Travels bus caught fire after colliding with a motorcycle. The bus dragged the bike for nearly 300 metres, leading to multiple fatalities. Officials later found several maintenance lapses and safety violations.

Therefore, the Telangana Transport Department intensified its inspection drives across Greater Hyderabad. Moreover, officers are verifying permits, inspecting bus conditions, and ensuring drivers follow operational safety procedures. As part of the initiative, the RTA plans to continue random inspections throughout the coming week.

Focus on stricter enforcement and safety

Transport officials emphasised that the current crackdown is preventive, not punitive. They urged all private operators to maintain vehicles properly, train drivers regularly, and comply with every safety rule.

In addition, the department plans to coordinate with police to ensure better enforcement on highways. Srinubabu said such collective action can significantly reduce accidents and save lives. He reaffirmed that the RTA will sustain inspections until private operators meet every safety requirement.
