Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau caught two government employees allegedly accepting a Rs 1 lakh bribe in Hyderabad on Thursday. The ACB said the money was demanded for processing and facilitating medical reimbursement claims under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund scheme.
The accused were identified as Anandeshi Raghavender and Medi Vinod. Raghavender worked as an outsourcing employee at the Telangana Secretariat. Meanwhile, Vinod served as a Senior Assistant at the Telangana State Industrial Development Corporation.
Vinod worked at the TSIDC office in Parishrama Bhavan at Basheerbagh. According to the ACB, both accused allegedly demanded money from the complainant in connection with CMRF medical reimbursement assistance.
The work included issuing a cheque for a sanctioned amount of Rs 2 lakh. In addition, the accused allegedly sought money for processing the complainant’s remaining reimbursement claim.
Rs 1 lakh bribe recovered by ACB
The ACB said Raghavender had earlier demanded and received Rs 5,000 from the complainant. The agency said the payment was made through Vinod using a PhonePe transaction.
On Thursday, Vinod allegedly accepted the Rs 1 lakh bribe directly from the complainant. He then handed the money to Raghavender, according to the anti-corruption agency.
ACB officials subsequently recovered the tainted cash from Raghavender’s possession. The agency alleged that both accused had abused their official positions to obtain an undue advantage from the complainant.
Officials took both accused into custody following the operation. They were being produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE & ACB Cases at Nampally for judicial remand.
The ACB continued its investigation into the bribery case. Meanwhile, authorities withheld the complainant’s details for security reasons.
