Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy called for protecting SIR voter rights and ensuring transparency during the electoral roll revision process. He said eligible voters should not lose their voting rights during the Special Intensive Revision process. He also sought clear procedures for deleting names and verifying voter eligibility.
Revanth Reddy said people ultimately decided who should govern them in a democracy. Therefore, he described voting rights as a cornerstone of the democratic system. He questioned how voter numbers could decline when the country’s population was increasing. He said electoral roll procedures should remain clear and understandable to the public.
The Chief Minister said authorities should conduct the exercise without creating doubts over voting rights. Revanth Reddy made the remarks at The Conclave 2026, organised by Assam-based Pratidin Media Network in New Delhi. He participated in a discussion titled “India’s Next Chapter.”
SIR voter rights and delimitation concerns
During the discussion, Revanth Reddy addressed SIR voter rights, delimitation and the future representation of southern states. He said states that had successfully controlled population growth should not face political disadvantages in future delimitation exercises.
The Chief Minister referred to the 1976 decision that froze the number of constituencies and subsequent developments. He said states that performed better in population control should not lose representation.
Revanth Reddy said numerical strength played an important role in national politics. He argued that reduced Lok Sabha representation could weaken southern states’ voice in national policymaking.
He also called for equal opportunities for all states in the country’s development. The Centre should encourage states to develop their potential using local resources and human capital, he said.
Revanth seeks support for Telangana projects
Revanth Reddy said Telangana could grow faster with adequate support from the Centre for major infrastructure projects. He referred to the Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion, Regional Ring Road and national highway projects. According to him, several key projects had remained pending with the Centre for a long period.
The Chief Minister said his government aimed to develop Telangana through education, skills, investment and infrastructure. He said the state should become a key contributor to India’s growth. He also stressed the need to equip young people with education and employment-oriented skills.
Revanth Reddy said the government had considered public feedback on English-medium and nursery education in government schools. It had consequently initiated reforms in the education sector. He called for an education policy that strengthened proficiency in both regional languages and English.
Students needed education along with language and communication skills from nursery through Class 12, he said. Revanth Reddy added that English had become important for employment opportunities.
