Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to establish a Traffic Management Bureau to oversee traffic management and road safety across Telangana. He said the bureau should have a dedicated institutional structure after conducting a comprehensive study of the State’s transport system.
The Chief Minister issued the directions while reviewing traffic management and road safety with senior officials at the Bodhi Pavilion in the MCR HRD Institute. He instructed officials to conduct review meetings every two or three months to assess measures for improving traffic regulation.
Traffic Management Bureau to oversee road safety
Further, Revanth Reddy asked officials to focus more on streamlining traffic than on enforcing rules alone. He said traffic plans should consider weather conditions, office timings, peak-hour congestion and local travel patterns.
Meanwhile, he directed officials to complete traffic studies before taking up new infrastructure projects. He also instructed them to strengthen safety measures on the Outer Ring Road. In addition, he asked authorities to prevent vehicles from stopping indiscriminately on the ORR through continuous monitoring.
Moreover, the Chief Minister called for a comprehensive study on introducing a smart signalling system in Hyderabad. He said the government should identify locations for underpasses and elevated corridors to support a signal-free traffic network. According to him, traffic should move continuously at major junctions without unnecessary delays.
Accordingly, Government Advisors P. Sudarshan Reddy and K. Ramakrishna Rao, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, Director General of Police C.V. Anand and other senior officials attended the review meeting.
