Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy launched a sharp attack on the previous BRS government on Teachers’ Day, accusing it of betraying its flagship KG-to-PG free education scheme.
Speaking at the Teachers’ Day function held at Shilpakala Vedika, the Chief Minister said the education sector had suffered from systemic neglect for ten years. “That’s why I’m handling the portfolio myself. The pressure is such that no one else wants it,” he remarked, in response to demands for a separate education minister.
Teachers honoured on Teachers’ Day
Revanth Reddy accused the former BRS regime of turning public education into a profit-driven business. He alleged that teacher transfers and new appointments were deliberately stalled for a decade, weakening the foundation of public schooling.
The Chief Minister claimed his government regularly consults with teachers’ associations to rebuild trust and strengthen public education. He said, “Has any Chief Minister ever taken part in a traditional Teacher Honour Ceremony? Did the previous government ever conduct one?”
During the event, the Chief Minister honoured award-winning teachers and joined them for lunch after presenting state awards. He also paid floral tributes to former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
₹130 crore CSR push and hostel food safety
Revanth Reddy announced ₹130 crore in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for infrastructure upgrades in government schools. Stressing that both salaries and working conditions matter, he said public education must empower children from economically disadvantaged families.
Reacting to recent food poisoning cases in government hostels, the Chief Minister ordered teachers to eat meals alongside students. The move, he said, aims to restore trust in food safety and hygiene.
According to the Chief Minister, 27 lakh students study in government schools across Telangana. Another 37 lakh are enrolled in 11,000 aided institutions.

CSR funds, food safety in hostels
Revanth Reddy also cited the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor at Osmania University as an example of policy based on “social justice and merit.” He claimed such appointments were manipulated under the BRS government.
Reiterating his government’s priorities, he said education and social equity would shape all public policy decisions going forward. He urged teachers to help uplift students from marginalised backgrounds, calling education a “lifeline for transformation.”
