Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Friday intensified his criticism of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of mishandling the urea supply crisis and targeting farmers who raised their voices.
Using social media platform X, KTR questioned whether the state had the courage to file cases against lakhs of farmers protesting the fertiliser shortage. He alleged that the crisis was the result of “Revanth Reddy’s incompetence.” Furthermore, he reminded the Chief Minister that the right to protest is enshrined in the Constitution the same document under which he took oath.
KTR slams case on Yellareddypet farmer
Citing the case of Lakshman Yadav from Ellareddipet, KTR said the farmer faced harassment for publicly expressing anguish over crop loss. According to him, police visited Yadav’s home at midnight and booked him under false charges. “Is the government punishing him for voicing his pain?” KTR asked. He condemned the alleged police action as politically motivated and unlawful.
In addition, he accused the Congress government of denying both fertiliser and democratic rights under its so-called “Indiramma Rajyam.” He called on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to respond, referencing his repeated affirmations of constitutional values.
‘BRS will stand by farmers’
KTR warned that no government could suppress mass farmer protests through arrests. “Even the state’s jails cannot hold every farmer,” he said. Urging the Chief Minister to learn from political history, he added, “If Revanth Reddy wants to know what happens when leaders provoke farmers, he should ask his old mentor.”
He reaffirmed that the BRS would protect farmers like Lakshman Yadav and defend their right to protest. “The party will treat Telangana’s food providers as its top priority,” KTR declared.
