Revanth Reddy set national example by leading NEET protests: Waliullah Sameer
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Lok Sabha Congress in-charge Mohammed Waliullah Sameer said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy set a national example by personally leading protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. He described him as the only Chief Minister to take to the streets in support of affected students.
Sameer said Revanth Reddy showed that protecting students’ future was a constitutional and moral responsibility. Further, he said the Chief Minister went beyond issuing statements. He joined protest programmes and demanded accountability from the Union Government.
“Revanth Reddy is perhaps the only Chief Minister in the country who has taken to the streets to fight for students affected by the NEET paper leak. His leadership has given confidence to lakhs of students and their parents that their concerns are being heard at the highest level,” Sameer said.
He recalled that Revanth Reddy had immediately condemned the cancellation of the NEET examination following allegations of a paper leak. Accordingly, the Chief Minister demanded a transparent investigation. He also sought strict action against those responsible and reforms to prevent similar incidents.

Moreover, Sameer said Revanth Reddy strongly condemned the reported police action against peaceful student protesters in New Delhi. He said the Chief Minister criticised the Centre for using force instead of addressing students’ concerns. In addition, he maintained that the democratic right to protest could not be curtailed through arrests or police action.
Sameer said the Chief Minister’s commitment to students extended beyond the NEET issue. Meanwhile, he said the Telangana Government had filled more than 70,000 vacancies in various departments within a short period after assuming office. He added that the government had launched initiatives to expand employment opportunities in the public and private sectors. It also improved transparency in recruitment.
Further, Sameer welcomed Revanth Reddy’s proposal to reduce the minimum age for contesting Assembly and Lok Sabha elections from 25 years to 21 years. He described the proposal as a progressive step to empower young people.
He said the Telangana Government would convene a special Assembly session in the first week of August. The session will pass a resolution on the proposal. Quoting the Chief Minister, Sameer said a person eligible to become an IAS officer or contest local body elections at 21 should also be allowed to contest Assembly and Parliamentary elections.
However, Sameer said the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resulted from sustained pressure by students and the Opposition. Nevertheless, he said further reforms were necessary. He called for stronger safeguards against paper leaks, strict legal action against those responsible, withdrawal of cases against peaceful student protesters and measures to restore public confidence in national examinations.
