Hyderabad: Bhadradri Kothagudem district collector Ankit declared a one-day holiday for schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres as Cyclone Arnab threatened to bring adverse weather to Telangana. The decision aimed to prevent students from facing difficulties amid the forecast of rain and strong winds.
The weather department had warned of possible rainfall in districts bordering Andhra Pradesh. The alert covered Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mulugu and Mahabubabad. Collectors in the affected districts were monitoring the situation as the cyclone’s impact extended beyond Andhra Pradesh.
Officials also forecast rain in other parts of Telangana. Suryapet and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts faced the possibility of heavy rainfall. Warangal and Hanamkonda were likely to receive moderate rain.
Cyclone Arnab raises rain concerns across Telangana
The weather department said the cyclone could cross the coast between Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on Wednesday morning. If the system changed direction, it could instead make landfall along the coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam.
The changing forecast raised concerns for districts across southern and eastern Telangana. Authorities were alert to the possibility of rainfall spreading beyond the districts initially identified in the warning.
In Bhadradri Kothagudem, the collector’s order covered educational institutions as well as Anganwadi centres for one day. The decision followed the weather alert and aimed to limit difficulties for students during the expected adverse conditions.
