Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy discussed faster implementation of the BharatNet programme in Telangana with Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia during a video conference.
The Chief Minister highlighted the need to strengthen high-speed broadband connectivity in rural Telangana through the amended BharatNet programme.
Revanth Reddy requested the Union Minister to speed up agreement formalities and release pending funds at the earliest.
The Chief Minister held the discussions along with Minister D. Sridhar Babu regarding implementation of the T-Fiber project under the amended BharatNet programme.
BharatNet programme focuses on rural digital connectivity
Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to establish a clear policy for transferring mandal-to-gram panchayat ring network systems to the Digital Bharat Nidhi framework.
According to officials, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia responded positively and assured full cooperation from the Central government.
The discussions also focused on Telangana’s goal of providing quality high-speed internet access to every village and household.
Officials stated that Telangana planned to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle under the BharatNet programme for signing agreements with the Central government.
The state government believes the mechanism would help develop a wider broadband network tailored to rural requirements.
BharatNet programme to strengthen T-Fiber network
The Telangana government also planned to expand the T-Fiber network through an integrated digital policy connecting every gram panchayat through ring architecture.
Officials said the ring architecture would ensure uninterrupted services even if one network route failed because alternative connectivity routes would remain active.
During the first phase, authorities will restore digital connectivity in 3,089 villages across the undivided Nizamabad, Rangareddy and Khammam districts where networks suffered damage.
The government stated that the amended BharatNet programme would also help create future-ready fibre infrastructure across rural Telangana.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Chief Minister’s Special Secretary B. Ajith Reddy, IT Department Joint Secretary D. Anudeep and other senior officials attended the video conference.
