Phone tapping controversy is political drama by Cong-BJP alliance: MLC Sravan

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan on Friday dismissed the phone tapping allegations as a “political drama” staged by the Congress and BJP, accusing both parties of collusion to manipulate public opinion ahead of municipal polls in Telangana.

Responding to remarks made by Union Minister Bandi Sanjay, Sravan said the allegations lacked evidence and contradicted earlier positions taken by Congress. He pointed out that Congress had previously accused the Central government of using Pegasus spyware, yet was now using similar allegations against others.

Sravan slams Congress-BJP ‘theatrics’, questions credibility of charges

Sravan called the phone tapping case “completely fabricated” and said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s statements from Davos, along with Bandi Sanjay’s inconsistent remarks, exposed the political motive behind the controversy. He challenged Sanjay to provide proof that he had personally witnessed any illegal surveillance in Sircilla.

The BRS MLC criticised what he called “reckless and defamatory” allegations by the Union Minister and questioned the double standards of targeting marginalised journalists while ignoring provocative political statements. He also questioned whether Bandi Sanjay was speaking as a BJP minister or acting as an unofficial Congress spokesperson.

Responding to Sanjay’s claim that AICC funds were routed through a farmhouse, Sravan termed the charge “absurd” and demanded proof. “If the Union Minister has evidence, he should use his official authority to act through central agencies, not resort to baseless public rhetoric,” he said.

He referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earlier comments on “RR Tax” in Telangana, asking why Bandi Sanjay had not addressed those concerns. Sravan urged the Minister to focus on current corruption issues under the Congress government instead of making “wild accusations” against the BRS.

Sravan further alleged that the Congress government had resorted to filing false and illegal cases against BRS leaders out of political vendetta. He said leaders like K. Chandrashekar Rao, K.T. Rama Rao, and T. Harish Rao had fully cooperated with investigative agencies, proving the BRS’s commitment to the rule of law.

Calling the phone tapping row a diversionary tactic, Sravan said the growing understanding between the Congress and BJP in Telangana was now visible, with both parties engaging in what he called “coordinated political theatrics.”
