NMC approves 810 new MBBS seats for Telangana

Hyderabad: The National Medical Commission (NMC) approved 810 new MBBS seats in Telangana for the 2026-27 academic year. As a result, the state’s total MBBS seat count has increased from 9,440 to 10,250.

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) released the official seat matrix for undergraduate medical courses. Telangana now has 66 medical colleges, including 36 government institutions and 30 private colleges.

The NMC allotted 110 of the new seats to government medical colleges. Consequently, government colleges now offer 4,410 MBBS seats. It also sanctioned 700 seats for private medical colleges, raising their total to 5,850.

Government and private colleges receive MBBS seats in Telangana

Among the government institutions, Government Medical College, Nizamabad, and RIMS Adilabad received 30 additional seats each. Meanwhile, Government Medical College, Mahabubnagar, and Government Medical College, Siddipet, received 25 additional seats each.

In the private sector, Maheshwara Medical College, MNR Medical College, and Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences received 100 additional seats each. Additionally, Bhaskar Medical College, Mamata Medical College-Hyderabad, Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Malla Reddy Women’s Medical College, and SVS Medical College received 50 additional seats each.

The NMC also approved 150 MBBS seats for the newly established Raja Rajeshwari Institute of Medical Sciences (Girls). Meanwhile, colleges under the Malla Reddy Group secured a total of 500 new seats. Neelima Medical College also received 150 seats.

Across India, the NMC increased MBBS seats by 9,911. As a result, the national total reached 1,36,939 seats, excluding institutions of national importance such as AIIMS and JIPMER.

Furthermore, the commission directed counselling authorities and medical colleges not to admit students beyond the approved intake. However, it clarified that the final seat allocation remains subject to court orders or decisions of the appellate committee.
