Nalgonda suicide attempt by love couple after marriage refusal

Hyderabad: A Nalgonda suicide attempt was reported after a young love couple consumed insecticide following opposition from their families to their marriage, police said.

The incident occurred near Rallavaguthanda in Damaracharla mandal of Nalgonda district. The couple consumed insecticide in an apparent suicide attempt, according to preliminary information.

They were initially shifted to the Miryalaguda Area Hospital for treatment. However, their condition turned critical. Subsequently, doctors advised advanced care, and the couple were shifted to Hyderabad for further treatment.

Police identified the pair as Soumya and Ramesh, residents of Theryala village in Motakondur mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. According to police sources, elders from both families had refused permission for their love marriage.

As a result, the couple allegedly took the extreme step. Police said the exact circumstances leading to the Nalgonda suicide attempt were under verification, and further details were awaited.

A similar incident had occurred about a month earlier in Rangareddy district. In Yacharam mandal’s Medipalli village, Pooja and Siddigoni Mahesh were in a relationship and planned to marry.

However, both families opposed the marriage citing incompatibility. Following the refusal, Pooja died by suicide at her residence. A few days later, Mahesh also died by suicide after dousing himself with petrol.

Police said such incidents continued to raise concern over family opposition to relationships, while investigations in both cases followed established legal procedures.
