Hyderabad: Miyapur Police Station carried out a chain snatching accused arrest, taking into custody a 28-year-old cab driver involved in thefts targeting women.
The accused, identified as Kottakota Govindarao, was arrested following a complaint lodged by a 65-year-old woman. Police said he operated in Miyapur and Aminpur areas under the Cyberabad Commissionerate.
According to police, the complaint was filed by a woman who reported the incident that occurred during her morning walk near HUDA Park. The attack took place when she stopped near a house close to a hospital to pluck flowers.
Chain snatching accused arrest after targeted attack
Police said the accused approached the victim on a motorcycle and attacked her from behind. He attempted to snatch her mangalsutra and succeeded after using force, despite resistance from the victim.
The woman sustained minor neck injuries during the incident. She later returned home in fear and informed her family before approaching the police.
She told police the attacker wore dark clothes and a helmet, making identification difficult. However, she stated she could recognise him if seen again.
Chain snatching accused arrest through technical evidence
Acting swiftly, police analysed available evidence and traced the motorcycle used in the crime. Based on the vehicle number, they identified the accused and apprehended him from his residence.
During investigation, police recovered two rolled gold chains linked to the case.
Officials said the accused worked as a cab driver and targeted women who were alone. He carried out chain snatching to earn quick money and spent the proceeds on personal expenses.
Police said such offences were reported in both Miyapur and Aminpur police station limits.
Authorities advised the public to avoid wearing heavy gold chains in public places. They also urged people to remain alert, especially in crowded areas or while travelling alone, and to keep valuables concealed.
