Hyderabad: Nagarkurnool MP Dr. Mallu Ravi on Sunday condemned the rise in caste discrimination and attacks on senior Dalit officials, including judges and IPS officers. He blamed the BJP’s divisive policies for creating an unsafe environment for Dalits across the country.
Speaking at a press meet in Kalwakurthy, he referred to the shoe attack on Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and the suicide of a Dalit IPS officer in Haryana. He said these incidents show how Dalits are being denied dignity and safety.
The MP accused the BJP governments at the Centre and in Haryana of ignoring institutional discrimination. He noted that the IPS officer had mentioned harassment in his suicide note. “Even though his wife is an IAS officer, she is now begging for justice,” he said.
Mallu Ravi: BJP targeting Dalit officers, ignoring Ambedkar’s ideals
Mallu Ravi questioned Prime Minister Modi’s silence on such attacks. He also asked why RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had not spoken out. He said this silence was damaging India’s image globally.
The Congress MP alleged that the BJP could not tolerate the success of Dalit officers. “If IAS, IPS officers, and judges face such humiliation, what protection is left for common Dalits?” he asked. He added that the BJP had lost the moral right to govern the country.
He urged Dalits not to take extreme steps like suicide. “Don’t end your life. Stand up and fight those who insult your identity,” he said. He accused the Prime Minister of using Ambedkar’s name while violating his values. He also said the BJP had distorted Lord Rama’s image by spreading hate in his name.
Mallu Ravi announced plans to launch a watchdog group to safeguard Dalit rights and track discrimination cases. He criticised the Centre’s move to shut pending cases at the National SC Commission, calling it a moral failure. “Will the government also shut down pending court cases?” he asked.
He concluded by saying that Congress under Indira Gandhi gave Dalits security, but the Modi government had done the opposite. He vowed to fight for justice in Parliament and on all public platforms.
