Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday lashed out at the Congress government for reportedly planning to “abolish” districts in Telangana. He warned that such a move would trigger a public backlash and eventually bring down the ruling party.
KTR reacted strongly to Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s statement that some districts were “not formed scientifically.” He accused the Congress of using poor governance as an excuse to undo decentralisation. “The people will not accept any attempt to reverse progress,” KTR said. He added that decentralisation brought district Collectors and SPs closer to the public, ensuring better service delivery.
KTR on abolishing districts: “Congress inviting downfall”
KTR cautioned that if the government scraps even one district, the BRS will launch a mass agitation with public support. “Abolishing districts will lead to the Congress party’s downfall,” he said at a public meeting in Mahbubnagar.
He credited former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao for creating new mandals, revenue divisions, and smaller districts to make governance accessible.
KTR accused CM A. Revanth Reddy of deliberately halting the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project. “This project brought water to lakhs of acres and helped reverse migration. Now, despite 90% completion and ₹30,000 crore spent, the Congress is delaying it to deny KCR the credit,” he claimed.
He also questioned why the government hadn’t delivered on its welfare promises. “Farmers aren’t even getting enough urea. What happened to your six guarantees?” he asked. He challenged Revanth Reddy to explain the lack of industrial development in Mahbubnagar during his upcoming visit.
“Congress failed on development and welfare”
KTR cited the stalled IT Tower project and the ₹9,500 crore Amara Raja investment secured during BRS rule. “Where are the new projects? Why are existing industries leaving?” he asked. He accused Congress of abandoning key welfare schemes, including Rythu Bandhu, pensions, and Kalyana Lakshmi benefits.
Asserting confidence, KTR said the public sees through the Congress government’s failures and is ready to bring the BRS back. Senior BRS leaders, former ministers, MLAs, and MPs joined him at the event to felicitate local Sarpanches.
