Bayimidi Tanda murder: Son hacked father to death in Vikarabad

Hyderabad: The Bayimidi Tanda murder case surfaced after a 34-year-old man allegedly hacked his father to death with an axe at Bayimidi Tanda in Peddemul mandal of Vikarabad district. Police said the accused attacked his father after learning that he had again assaulted his wife and younger daughter.

Tandur Rural Circle Inspector Praveen Kumar Reddy disclosed the case details to the media on Saturday. According to police, the deceased was identified as Rathod Lokya Naik, 50, a resident of Bayimidi Tanda under Peddemul mandal limits.

Police said Lokya Naik had been addicted to alcohol for some time. As a result, he had been repeatedly harassing his wife, Bikki Bai, and their younger daughter after consuming liquor. On the morning of March 27, he again attacked them severely at home, police said.

Unable to bear the harassment, Bikki Bai called her elder son, Rathod Sunil Naik, 34, who was living in Hyderabad and earning a livelihood by driving an auto-rickshaw. She broke down over the phone and informed him about the fresh assault, police said.

Bayimidi Tanda murder followed family dispute

After receiving the call, Sunil Naik rushed to the tanda and questioned his father over his behaviour, police said. However, the confrontation soon escalated into a heated argument between the two.

In a fit of rage, Sunil Naik allegedly picked up an axe from the house and struck his father on the neck, jaw and the back of the head. Because of heavy bleeding, Lokya Naik died on the spot, police said.

The Bayimidi Tanda murder shocked the local tribal hamlet, where the family had been living. Police said the attack took place inside the house after tensions flared over the repeated abuse of the victim’s wife and younger daughter.

Bayimidi Tanda murder accused sent to remand

Soon after receiving information about the killing, the Peddemul Sub-Inspector and Tandur Rural CI Praveen Kumar Reddy reached the scene and examined the body. During questioning, Sunil Naik was taken into custody and admitted to the crime, police said.

Later, the body was shifted to the Tandur Government Hospital for postmortem examination. Police registered a case against the accused in the Bayimidi Tanda murder and produced him before a court on Saturday. He was then sent to judicial remand, the CI said.

The police investigation continued into the sequence of events that led to the killing. However, officers said the immediate trigger was the father’s drunken assault on his wife and younger daughter earlier that morning.
