KTR raps CP Sajjanar for ‘playing judge’ in phone tapping case

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday criticised Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar for referring to the ongoing SIT investigation as an “illegal phone tapping case Telangana,” accusing him of acting beyond the mandate of an investigator.

Reacting to Sajjanar’s comments following the SIT’s five-hour questioning of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, KTR alleged that the top cop was “playing both judge and jury.” He posted on X that only courts can determine legality, not the head of the probe team, and urged the judiciary to take note of what he termed “extremely objectionable statements.”

Phone tapping case Telangana remarks spark BRS protest, KTR backlash

Following KCR’s questioning at his Nandinagar residence on Sunday, Sajjanar’s “illegal tapping” remark sparked political outrage. BRS cadres launched protests in several towns and villages against the SIT’s notices to their party president.

Thanking party workers, KTR said the mobilisation echoed the Telangana movement. He blamed the Congress government for administrative failure, citing poor law and order and lapses in Medaram Jathara arrangements.

He also called for a white paper on the recent Davos investment agreements. Additionally, he repeated his demand for a CBI and sitting judge probe into the alleged Singareni coal scam.

KTR claimed that SITs were being misused to deflect public attention from governance failures. He argued that Congress leaders’ claims in the phone tapping case were “collapsing one by one.”

On municipal polls, he said BRS campaigns would avoid mass rallies, instead focusing on local outreach. He expressed confidence in the party’s prospects.
