KTR warns Centre on delimitation, flags southern backlash

Hyderabad: BRS working president K T Rama Rao issued a KTR delimitation warning to the Centre, cautioning that any move reducing southern representation would trigger widespread protests.

He said delimitation based on population would not remain a mere legal or political exercise. Instead, he warned it could spark a large-scale public movement across southern India.

KTR said the party’s stand on delimitation remained unchanged. At the same time, he reiterated that BRS continued to oppose any move that weakened southern states politically.

He said southern states played a key role in national development. Therefore, he argued that reducing their representation would be unfair and against democratic principles.

KTR delimitation warning signals strong political response

KTR said southern states achieved progress through population control and development. However, he said the proposed model penalised such achievements.

He criticised the Centre for considering policies that reduced representation of performing states. In addition, he said such steps contradicted the spirit of democracy.

KTR said BRS would not remain silent if the voice of southern states was weakened in Parliament. Consequently, he warned of an uncompromising fight to protect regional rights.

He urged the Centre to reconsider its approach. At the same time, he said policymakers must understand the implications of such decisions.

KTR said the party would continue its efforts to safeguard representation. Meanwhile, he called for fair treatment of southern states in national policy decisions.
