Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday held Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directly responsible for the alleged police assault on BRS women MLAs at the Telangana Assembly. KTR alleged that police acted on the Chief Minister’s directions during the confrontation with BRS legislators. Revanth Reddy also held the home portfolio.
The BRS leader condemned the alleged manhandling of women legislators and demanded an apology from the Chief Minister. He said the party would continue its protest until Revanth apologised. KTR alleged that police pulled the sarees of women legislators and grabbed them by their throats. He also accused police personnel of dragging the women by their hair.
He held Revanth responsible for the alleged treatment of BRS women MLAs and senior party legislators.
BRS women MLAs row: KTR questions Assembly restrictions
KTR accused the Congress government of suppressing the democratic rights of BRS legislators. He questioned why police prevented BRS MLAs and MLCs from entering the Assembly while wearing protest T-shirts. Moreover, he pointed out that Congress leaders had staged similar protests in Parliament. The BRS legislators had arrived at the Assembly wearing T-shirts as part of their protest. However, police stopped them from entering, triggering a confrontation.
KTR alleged that the government feared questions from BRS legislators about the Congress government’s performance during the last three years. He also argued that police should not decide what was politically or procedurally right or wrong.
BRS women MLAs issue will remain in focus, KTR says
KTR accused Revanth of trying to divert public attention from the alleged police action. He said the Chief Minister had instead focused on controversial remarks attributed to BRS MLC Tata Madhu. According to KTR, the controversy surrounding Madhu’s alleged remarks was being used to shift attention from the treatment of BRS women MLAs.
The BRS working president reiterated that the police action had taken place under the Chief Minister’s direction. He maintained that Revanth, as the holder of the home portfolio, bore responsibility. KTR said the BRS would continue raising the alleged assault on its legislators. He also maintained that the party’s protest would continue until the Chief Minister tendered an apology.
