Hyderabad: Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Monday demanded the cancellation of Tata Madhu MLC membership over alleged inappropriate remarks against Telangana Assembly Speaker G. Prasad Kumar.
Prabhakar also sought disciplinary action against the BRS legislator. He demanded Tata Madhu’s suspension and called for steps to terminate his membership of the Telangana Legislative Council.
The minister said the Speaker occupied a constitutional position. Therefore, he argued that disparaging the office amounted to insulting the dignity of the Legislative Assembly and democratic institutions.
Tata Madhu MLC remarks draw Ponnam’s criticism
Prabhakar said political leaders had a responsibility to respect the Speaker’s office. He also stressed that elected representatives must maintain the dignity of the Assembly. Moreover, the minister questioned BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao over his silence on the alleged remarks.
Prabhakar urged the BRS leadership to uphold respect for constitutional offices. He maintained that the alleged comments against the Speaker warranted action against Tata Madhu MLC.
The minister’s demand focused on disciplinary action, suspension and steps to cancel Madhu’s Legislative Council membership. He said respect for the Speaker’s constitutional position and the dignity of the Assembly must be maintained.
