Hyderabad: Koppula Eshwar Sircilla remarks targeted the Telangana government over alleged political vendetta against the BRS. Former Minister and BRS leader Koppula Eshwar also accused the government of neglecting development and welfare.
Eshwar spoke at a press conference in Sircilla on Friday. He criticised the early-morning detention of BRS workers ahead of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s visit. He described the action as an attack on BRS activists and people in the region.
Police detained several opposition leaders, activists, farmers and auto-driver representatives before Revanth Reddy’s Sircilla visit. The action came amid concerns over possible protests during the Chief Minister’s public meeting.
Eshwar alleged that the Congress government had not fulfilled its Six Guarantees. He also referred to other promises made by the party.
The BRS leader raised several issues affecting farmers. He cited inadequate irrigation, urea shortages and delays in paddy procurement. He also criticised the implementation of Rythu Bandhu and the farm loan waiver.
In addition, Eshwar compared the Congress government with the previous BRS administration. He focused particularly on policies for the handloom sector.
Koppula Eshwar Sircilla remarks focus on weavers and development
Eshwar recalled measures such as Bathukamma saree orders and subsidies. He also mentioned Nethannaku Bharosa and insurance support for weavers.
He credited the previous BRS government with developing Sircilla. According to Eshwar, the government made Sircilla a district headquarters. It also established a Collectorate, educational institutions and other infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Eshwar referred to weaver suicides during an earlier Congress regime. He said the situation led to Sircilla acquiring the nickname “Urisilla”.
The Koppula Eshwar Sircilla remarks came after the Chief Minister’s visit to the town. BRS leaders had also criticised Revanth Reddy over issues concerning farmers and weavers. They questioned the implementation of Congress poll promises.
The Congress government has presented a different account of its work in Sircilla. Revanth Reddy said on September 30 that the government had spent ₹1,741 crore on weavers during its first 1,000 days. He also cited payments and new orders for the handloom sector.
Recent reports have highlighted continuing financial difficulties among Sircilla weavers. Telangana Today reported that 34 weavers had died by suicide over the previous three years. The report attributed the distress to financial difficulties and problems in the textile sector.
The Koppula Eshwar Sircilla remarks followed preventive detentions ahead of the Chief Minister’s programme. Police had detained BRS leaders and other groups before the September 30 visit.
