TGHRC seeks report on alleged wrong-eye surgery in Sircilla

Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights Commission took suo motu cognisance of an alleged wrong-eye surgery involving a woman from Sircilla. It directed the district health authorities to submit a detailed report on the case.

The Commission acted on a media report alleging that doctors operated on the woman’s right eye instead of her left eye. TGHRC said the allegation, if established, raised concerns about medical negligence, patient safety and informed consent.

The Commission directed the District Medical and Health Officer of Rajanna Sircilla district to provide details about the treatment. The report must include the patient’s medical records and information about the surgery doctors had advised.

Alleged wrong-eye surgery report to cover consent, inquiry

TGHRC also sought details about the procedure that doctors actually performed in the alleged wrong-eye surgery case. In addition, it asked the DM&HO to provide information about the consent obtained from the patient.

The Commission directed the official to report the woman’s present medical condition. It also sought the findings of any inquiry conducted into the allegations.

The requested report would therefore cover the patient’s records, the advised procedure, the surgery performed and the consent process. It would also include her current condition and any available inquiry findings.

TGHRC posted the matter for hearing on November 6, 2026. The hearing was scheduled for 11 am. The Commission’s intervention followed the media allegation concerning the surgery in Sircilla. Further examination of the wrong-eye surgery would proceed after the district health authorities submitted the requested details.
