Kishan Reddy urges parties to support SIR voter roll revision

Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy urged political parties not to politicise the SIR voter roll revision, saying the Election Commission of India was conducting a routine constitutional exercise to improve the accuracy and transparency of electoral rolls. He also appealed to citizens to participate actively in the process.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office in Hyderabad, Kishan Reddy said the SIR voter roll revision was not a new exercise. He said the Election Commission had conducted similar revisions several times in the past, including during Congress governments.

SIR voter roll revision aims to improve accuracy

Kishan Reddy said the Election Commission was carrying out the exercise independently. He added that the process had no connection with any political party or government.

According to the Union minister, the revision aims to ensure that every eligible Indian citizen receives the right to vote. It also seeks to remove duplicate entries, the names of deceased persons and ineligible voters from the electoral rolls.

He alleged that some political parties were spreading misinformation about the exercise. Therefore, he appealed to people across Telangana and other Telugu-speaking regions to participate in the revision process and safeguard their voting rights.

SIR voter roll revision strengthens democracy

Kishan Reddy said an accurate electoral roll was essential for the effective functioning of democracy. Moreover, he claimed that similar revision exercises had improved voter awareness and participation in other states.

He also said the process helped correct irregularities and strengthened public confidence in the electoral system.

The Union minister emphasised the independence of the Election Commission. He said political parties should avoid making baseless allegations against the constitutional body or creating unnecessary doubts among voters.
